Today I’ve had so much on my mind that I had to take my lunch hour and just go sit in my car at a park and spend some quiet time with God. This
week I’m speaking at our High School Ministry’s mid-week service and I’m speaking to the guys about Responsibility and Trustworthiness. I was honored when the high school staff asked me to speak at this service and I wrote several points on my outline and thought I was done and just needed to fine-tune my talk a little bit.
Then last night I got a text from Steven saying the following, “Praying for your talk tonight and that God would lead you to the message He wants to speak through you.” It was a great reminder to me. Sometimes we get caught up in what we want to do or say and forget that when we’re teaching students we are God’s mouthpiece. I prayed the same thing last night and again today and my lesson didn’t really change a lot but it definitely did change.
In a couple of weeks Saddleback Church has our High School camp coming up and I’ll have a whole new group of students. A month after that will be my new student small group. I need to apply the same thinking and I need to pray that God will use me as he sees fit in these student’s lives. I have to make myself available and say “Whatever it takes God, I’m all in.” When you are leading your small group lessons, your discussion time with students at camp or anytime you’re teaching students you need to put your agenda to the side and have your prayer be to let God lead you in what you need to say and talk or teach about. I think this is something where we all need a gentle reminder every now and then.
Do you remember to let God lead your lessons or is it all you?
